Basement Finishing · O'Fallon & St. Charles County
A basement worth going downstairs for.
We finish and remodel basements across St. Charles County, starting with the part most people skip: making sure the space stays dry.
Basement Finishing & Remodeling
St. Charles County sits on heavy clay soil. Clay holds water against foundation walls, and after a wet spring that water finds the cracks. Before we frame a single wall in your basement, we look for the signs: white crust on the block, stains at the floor line, a musty smell that never quite leaves. Finishing over a moisture problem just hides it behind new drywall.
Once the space is ready, we build it out properly. That means treated lumber where framing meets concrete, insulation suited to a below-grade wall, and an egress window wherever a bedroom is planned. Then the ceiling decision: drywall looks finished, while a drop ceiling keeps shut-offs and ductwork within reach. Shane will walk you through which one fits the way you'll use the room.
We finish basements for families who need a playroom, a guest suite, a home office or a place to watch the game. We also redo basements that someone finished badly years ago. Either way, one contractor handles framing, drywall, recessed lighting, flooring and trim, with Shane on site and ready to answer questions as the work goes.

What's included
Every part of the job, handled.
- 01
Moisture check and control
We check walls, floor and outside grading for water before anything is built, then recommend the fix the space actually needs before framing starts.
- 02
Framing and insulation
Walls framed square with treated plates on the slab, and insulation chosen for below-grade conditions so the room stays comfortable in every season.
- 03
Egress windows
Egress windows cut in for basement bedrooms, giving you a code-compliant way out in an emergency, plus daylight that makes the room feel bigger.
- 04
Drywall or drop ceilings
Hung, taped and finished drywall ceilings for a clean look, or drop ceilings that keep plumbing, ductwork and shut-off valves easy to reach.
- 05
Recessed lighting and outlets
Recessed lights laid out so the whole room is evenly lit, outlets where furniture will actually go, and permitted wiring handled properly.
- 06
Below-grade flooring
Flooring chosen to handle a concrete slab, such as luxury vinyl plank or tile, so a damp spring or a little humidity doesn't ruin it.
Shane from A to Z Improvements did an amazing job on my project. You can really tell he takes pride in his work. His attention to detail stood out from start to finish. Everything was done carefully and came out exactly how I wanted it. On top of that, his prices were super reasonable, especially for the quality of work he delivered. He's also quick to respond and very easy to talk to, which made the whole process smooth and stress-free. And just like his motto says, "from roof to basement and everything in between," he really can handle it all. I'll definitely be having him back for more work in the future. Highly recommend!

FAQ
Basement Finishing & Remodeling:
common questions
Still wondering about something? Call or text Shane at (636) 306-0393.
My basement gets damp. Can it still be finished?
Often, yes, but the dampness has to be dealt with first. Sometimes the fix is outside, like regrading soil or extending downspouts away from the house. Sometimes it means sealing cracks or managing humidity. Shane will figure out where the water is coming from and tell you plainly whether the space is ready to finish or needs more work first.
Do I need a permit to finish my basement?
Usually, yes, especially if you're adding a bedroom, new circuits or a bathroom. We pull the permit and schedule the inspections wherever your city requires them, so the work is on record when you sell. That paperwork matters more than people think: an unpermitted basement bedroom can cause headaches during a home inspection or appraisal down the road.
Drywall or drop ceiling: which should I choose?
Drywall gives a clean, finished look and makes the basement feel like the rest of the house. A drop ceiling lets you reach plumbing, ductwork and shut-off valves without cutting anything open. Plenty of homeowners use drywall over the main living area and a drop ceiling over the mechanical side. Shane will help you weigh it for your layout.
Can you add a bathroom in the basement?
In many homes, yes. Some St. Charles County subdivisions were built with a bathroom rough-in already stubbed up through the slab, which makes things simpler. Without one, the floor has to be opened for drain lines. Plumbing that requires a licensed plumber and a permit is handled properly. Shane will look at your basement and explain what's involved.
